Since a patent confers exclusive legal rights concerning the exploitation of an invention, it allows the owner the best opportunity to profit from the invention by preventing others from copying it. An inventor does not need a patent in order to exploit an invention, but without a patent, the inventor would not be able to prevent others from copying the invention.

The South African Supplier Diversity Council (SASDC) is on a mission to transform South Africa through inclusive growth of black business in our supply chains. We do this by identifying the challenges and then working with our corporate and supplier members to find solutions. Access to funding is one such challenge for many SMMEs, many SMMEs do not know the various funding vehicles available to them. Also, these funding vehicles require anyone applying to meet particular criteria. Similarly, there are many opportunities being offered by both the private and public sector to SMMEs that they may not be aware of. The purpose of this webinar series is to showcase some of the funding opportunities currently available and discuss the differences between them i.e. loan, grant, development funding and so on.
